Does the Prusa MK3.5S 3D printer work with SimplyPrint, OctoPrint, Mainsail and Fluidd?
Each way of connecting it, what it needs, and how to set it up.
SimplyPrint Client
Compatible
PrusaLink is built into Prusa's Buddy firmware, which the SimplyPrint Client connects to, as on the MK3.5.
Source
What you need: A computer or Raspberry Pi on the same network that stays on, running the SimplyPrint Client
Runs Prusa's Buddy firmware on xBuddy electronics like the MK3.5, which SimplyPrint's Prusa firmware (beta) supports. Not confirmed on this printer yet.
Source
What you need: The SimplyPrint firmware for Prusa printers, in beta, installed on the printer
Ships Prusa's own firmware (Buddy, based on Marlin). Klipper only as an unofficial conversion.

Doesn't ship with Klipper: it runs Klipper after you install it in place of its own firmware, a modification
What works with SimplyPrint
Connected through OctoPrint, SimplyPrint is expected to support most of what it offers on the Prusa MK3.5S: the camera and AI failure detection, remote printing, temperature and movement control and AutoPrint. Not available through OctoPrint: sync loaded filament from the multi-material unit. 3 features depend on how it's set up: the table says what each needs. The table below compares all 3 ways of connecting it to SimplyPrint.

What slicer to use for the Prusa MK3.5S
Prusa printers use PrusaSlicer, Prusa's own slicer. There's no ready-made profile for the Prusa MK3.5S in our cloud yet.
We only list slicers you can use in the SimplyPrint cloud, so there may be others for the Prusa MK3.5S.
Cloud-Based Slicer for Prusa MK3.5S: Use PrusaSlicer Online
Use PrusaSlicer and other slicers - directly in your browser with SimplyPrint's online cloud slicer. No installation required. Slice your Prusa MK3.5S models from any device, anywhere in the world!
Automatic Profile Updates: Profiles are automatically checked and fetched from the slicer GitHub repositories every day, as well as from our own open-source community-driven slicer profile database. This ensures you always have access to the latest profiles.
Note: Other slicers, such as Simplify3D, ideaMaker, SuperSlicer and KISSlicer, aren't in our cloud, so we don't track their profiles. They may still work well with your Prusa MK3.5S: check the slicer's own documentation or forums for a profile. You can also contribute profiles to our open-source slicer profile database on GitHub.
The app for the Prusa MK3.5S
Use SimplyPrint as the app for your Prusa MK3.5S: watch and run it from your phone or any browser, slice in the cloud, and keep it next to your other printers. It's free to start. Prusa's own apps are Prusa app and Prusa Connect.
There's no plate swapper or auto-ejection kit for the Prusa MK3.5S in SimplyPrint yet, but AutoPrint can still keep it printing: once the plate is clear, it starts the next job from your queue.
Bed slingers are the easiest to automate
The Prusa MK3.5S moves its bed back and forth, so its plate comes out to the front of the printer. That's what plate swappers like these use: they take the finished plate off and slide a fresh one on. Without a kit, a G-code routine can push cooled prints off with the toolhead.

What filament can the Prusa MK3.5S print?
Filament compatibility for the Prusa MK3.5S: the materials it can handle, judged from its hotend, bed, chamber and enclosure.
Filament
Suitability
Notes
PLA
Great
The easiest filament to print. Works on almost any printer; a heated bed helps adhesion but is not required.
PETG
Great
Comfortably in range (PETG likes a ~230-250C hotend and a ~70-85C bed).
TPU & flexibles
Great
The direct-drive extruder feeds flexible filament well. Print slowly for clean results.
ABS & ASA
With care
The bed is hot enough, but ABS and ASA warp without an enclosure, which is strongly recommended for clean prints.
Nylon (PA)
With care
Possible with care - an enclosure and very dry filament are essential.
Polycarbonate (PC)
With care
On the edge - PC really wants an enclosed, hot chamber to avoid warping.
Carbon-fiber & glass-filled
With care
Possible if you fit a hardened or wear-resistant nozzle - the abrasive fibers quickly wear a stock brass nozzle.
Tip: this is a general guide from the printer's specs - always check your filament's recommended settings. With SimplyPrint you can save a profile for each spool and track exactly what filament you have in stock.

Upgrades his MK3S+ with the $250 MK3.5S kit and calls it a definite yes: 30% to over twice the speed without the accuracy loss of cranking speed on the old printer, plus network, NFC and a colour touchscreen. It falls short of the MK4S because the old extruder stays.

Prusa Research is a Prague company founded in 2012 by Josef Průša, who came from the open-source RepRap project. It designs and builds the Original Prusa and Prusa CORE printers, makes Prusament filament, develops the PrusaSlicer slicer and runs the Printables model site. Printers are built in Prague and at its US site in Delaware, sold assembled or as kits, and used by hobbyists, schools, businesses and print farms.

Prusa is the most open of the large brands: GPL firmware, an open slicer, full local control without an account and spare parts for everything. Hardware design files now come under Prusa's own Open Community License, which allows personal and in-house business use but not selling machines.
Firmware and custom firmware ●●●●●
Firmware for current printers is published on GitHub under GPL-3.0 and updated with every release. Official firmware is signed, but Prusa documents how to flash custom firmware by breaking a seal on the board and says this does not void the warranty. Prusa says firmware and printable parts are shared right away and electronics schematics later.
[1][2][3]
Local control and integrations ●●●●●
PrusaLink, built into the CORE One, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5 and XL, handles monitoring, file uploads and print control on the local network without internet or an account, and printing from USB works offline. Prusa publishes PrusaLink's HTTP API as an OpenAPI specification on GitHub, and its help centre covers OctoPrint setup. Prusa Connect is an optional cloud service for remote access.
[4][15]
Third-party filament, slicers and parts ●●●●●
Printers are open to any filament; PrusaSlicer is GPL-licensed and other slicers work. Instead of a locked RFID system, Prusa created OpenPrintTag, an NFC spool-tag standard that is free for any brand to use and works offline.
[5][6]
Repairs and spare parts ●●●●●
The e-shop sells spare parts for each printer, printable parts are published, and the full CORE One CAD files are released. Prusa's open-source page says its goal is printers that stay moddable and easy to repair for decades, and its licence explicitly allows making spare parts for your own machines.
[7][3][5]
Data and privacy ●●●●●
No account is needed for local use through PrusaLink or USB. Prusa Connect needs a Prusa account and stores G-codes and telemetry in the cloud. Prusa Research is an EU company and publishes its privacy policy and a Trust Center.
[4][8]
Community and documentation ●●●●●
Large community around Printables and the forum, a detailed knowledge base, and firmware and slicer developed in public on GitHub with open issue trackers.
[1][4]
Pros
GPL firmware with a documented, warranty-safe way to flash custom firmware.
Full control on the local network through PrusaLink, with no account needed.
Spare parts for every printer, published printable parts and released CAD files.
Kits available for people who want to build and understand their printer.
Made in Prague, with a second factory in Delaware for US buyers.
OpenPrintTag is an open spool-tag standard any brand can use.
Cons
Hardware files use Prusa's own OCL licence, which bars selling machines built from them; it is not an OSI open-source licence.
Electronics schematics are published later than firmware and printable parts.
Remote access and cloud storage need Prusa Connect and an account.
Track record
July 2026: Printed Solid, the Delaware company Prusa Research bought in 2022, was renamed Prusa USA. Its Wilmington site builds the MK4S and CORE One+, makes filament and is Prusa's US service centre.
[9]
December 2025: Prusa released the full CAD files of the CORE One under its new Open Community License (OCL). OCL allows modifying, sharing mods and in-house commercial use, and grants patent and repair rights, but bars selling machines built from the files without an agreement, so it is not a standard open-source licence. Prusa said it is also filing patents on its designs.
[5]
October 2025: Prusa launched OpenPrintTag, a published NFC standard for smart filament spools that any brand can use without licence fees, starting with redesigned Prusament spools.
[6]
November 2024: Prusa announced the CORE One, its first fully enclosed CoreXY printer with active chamber temperature control.
[10]
March 2023: Josef Průša wrote that open source in 3D printing was under strain from cloners and licence violations. With the MK4, Prusa released firmware sources and models of the plastic parts but held back the electronics plans, planning to publish them later under a new licence.
