WASP (World's Advanced Saving Project; WASP S.r.l.) is an Italian maker of delta and large-format 3D printers from Massa Lombarda, near Ravenna. Its printers handle technical filaments, pellets, clay and ceramics, and its construction printers (Crane WASP) print buildings from local earth, such as the TECLA house completed with Mario Cucinella Architects in 2021. Buyers are ceramic studios, architects, orthopaedic and medical users, research labs and industry.

Mixed: open on materials and slicers, with spare parts sold and no cloud required, but the firmware is WASP's own and not published.
Firmware and custom firmware ●●●●●
Current WASP printers run the company's own firmware (WASP's GitHub calls it 'WASP Firmware'). WASP publishes only an old firmware for the discontinued Delta WASP Open kit (2019) and a 2012 Marlin fork for the PowerWASP; we found no source for current machines.
[5][6][8][9]
Local control and integrations ●●●●●
The 4070 FX connects over Wi-Fi, LAN or USB and can be monitored and controlled from a phone, tablet or computer; the 2040 PRO prints from an SD card. WASP's GitHub holds an OctoPrint 1.3.8 fork 'working with WASP firmware' (2021), but WASP does not say which interface current printers expose to other software. WASP also offers remote intervention by its technicians. We found no cloud account requirement.
[2][3][9]
Third-party filament, slicers and parts ●●●●●
Open materials: 1.75 mm (2040 PRO) or 2.85 mm (4070 FX) filament, pellets and clay. A Simplify3D licence is included and Cura or Slic3r also work. Nozzles and extruders are WASP's own (Spitfire, ZEN, HDP).
[2][3][7]
Repairs and spare parts ●●●●●
WASP's shop sells print beds, nozzles, extruders, Bowden kits, filters and gaskets for its printers, and manuals for each machine are downloadable.
[7][4]
Community and documentation ●●●●●
A downloads area with manuals and slicer profiles per printer, and an established maker and research network (open days, IAAC summer camps); little open code or public technical forum.
[4][1][8]
Pros
Prints materials most desktop brands can't: clay, ceramics, pellets and flexible TPU.
Open to third-party filaments and pellets; works with Simplify3D (included), Cura and Slic3r.
Spare nozzles, extruders, beds and filters sold directly by WASP.
Designed and supported in Italy; WASP holds open days at its headquarters.
Cons
Firmware is WASP's own and not published.
Nozzles and extruders are WASP's own designs.
Priced as professional equipment: the Delta WASP 2040 PRO starts at 2,990 euros.
Little public technical community beyond manuals and profiles.
Track record
January 2021: WASP finished printing the structure of TECLA, an earth house designed with Mario Cucinella Architects and printed by synchronised Crane WASP printers, as reported by 3Dnatives.
