Looking for Printerhive alternatives?

Printerhive is a young, EU-built cloud tool for managing a fleet of 3D printers from one dashboard. It started life as one of the first ways to fully control Bambu Lab printers remotely, and it has grown a genuinely nice commerce angle on top: an embeddable quote calculator for your website and live order import from Shopify, WooCommerce and Upgates. For a small, mostly-Bambu farm that sells custom prints, it's a tidy, well-focused option, and we mean that.

But "manage your printers" and "run a print farm at scale" aren't the same job. A farm has to run whatever printers you already own, catch failures, keep printing unattended, and stay affordable as it grows past a couple of dozen machines. That's the ground SimplyPrint has been built on since 2020, across every major printer brand. Here's a fair, side-by-side look.

Best known for Print farm Hobbyist
The bottom line

Printerhive is a young (founded 2024), EU-based cloud tool whose standout strengths are an embeddable customer quote calculator and live Shopify / WooCommerce / Upgates order import. If you run a small, mostly-Bambu (or Klipper) farm that sells custom prints, stay under ~30 printers, it's a smart, honest little platform whose quote calculator and shop-order import genuinely stand out.

SimplyPrint is a farm-grade management platform that's been running print farms since 2020. It runs Bambu brilliantly, and Klipper, Prusa (fully), Marlin, Duet and OctoPrint natively too, and ships AI failure detection and AI bed-check, a full interactive cloud slicer with 5 engines, unlimited continuous printing (AutoPrint), built-in filament inventory with NFC, a maintenance system, native iOS/Android apps, enterprise SSO and an Education plan, all today. Pricing scales with volume discounts and Fair Billing well past Printerhive's 30-printer ceiling. Both are EU and GDPR-compliant, so that's a wash; the difference is breadth, depth and how far it scales.

Runs every printer, not just Bambu

The first thing a farm checks is what it can actually plug in. Printerhive is Bambu-first, with full Klipper and only basic Prusa, and every printer connects through a Raspberry Pi client you run on the network. SimplyPrint runs every major brand natively, and has since 2020.

Bambu Lab
SimplyPrint
Connect Bambu directly with full control and camera, on a platform that's been refining Bambu farm management since 2020.
Printerhive
Genuinely strong here, they were one of the first to fully control Bambu remotely, via a Raspberry Pi client on your LAN (newer firmware needs LAN Mode + Developer Mode). Credit where it's due.
Everything else (Klipper, Prusa, Marlin, Duet, OctoPrint)
SimplyPrint
OctoPrint, Klipper/Moonraker, Marlin (incl. USB/serial), Prusa, Bambu and Duet are all first-class, with the same depth of control on each.
Printerhive
Klipper/Moonraker is fully supported, but Prusa is "basic" only (PrusaLink; enhanced support is still on their roadmap), and there's no OctoPrint, no Marlin-over-USB and no Duet.
Maturity & track record
SimplyPrint
Running print farms since 2020, with a deep, shipped toolset and a large user base across every brand.
Printerhive
Founded in 2024 by a two-person team, still on "beta" introductory pricing, with near-zero independent reviews yet. Promising, but early.
Whether your farm is all-Bambu or a mix of brands, SimplyPrint runs it, with five years of farm experience behind it, and never ties you to one manufacturer.

Cheaper for a working farm, and it keeps scaling

Printerhive looks cheap at a glance, but the features a farm actually runs on, multi-printer printing, auto-assign, filament tracking and the API, are all locked to its €50 Professional tier. SimplyPrint includes them far lower, and scales with volume discounts and Fair Billing instead of hitting a wall. Here's the honest math.

What a working farm costs
SimplyPrint
The print queue, multi-printer printing and API are in Pro at $9.99/mo (5 printers); the full farm suite, unlimited AutoPrint, filament inventory, maintenance and shared profiles, is Print Farm at $39.99/mo (10 printers).
Printerhive
The features a farm needs, multi-printer printing, MagicPrint auto-assign, filament tracking and the API, all start at the €50 Professional plan. The €8 Hobby and €20 Hobby Max tiers are single-user, with no multi-printer printing, auto-assign or filament tracking.
Bracket cliffs & user caps
SimplyPrint
Add printers and seats as you need them, no cliff edges, and users are never capped.
Printerhive
Fixed brackets cap hard: a 9th printer forces the €50 tier, and users are capped at 2 (Professional) and 4 (Business).
At scale (30+ printers)
SimplyPrint
Per-printer price drops with volume discounts, Fair Billing credits back printers and seats you aren't using, users are unlimited, and it scales to 100+.
Printerhive
The top "Business" plan is €100/mo and stops at 30 printers and 4 users, with no volume discount and no annual discount (Printerhive flags current prices as introductory and rising). A farm past 30 printers can't use it.
For the features a print farm actually runs on, SimplyPrint starts far cheaper, from $9.99 (or $39.99 for the full farm suite), where Printerhive starts at €50. It includes more per euro, never caps your team, and is the only one of the two that scales past 30 printers.

Where Printerhive might be the better pick

We respect what two founders have built quickly. For the right setup, Printerhive is a genuinely smart choice, and there are things it does that SimplyPrint doesn't (yet):

Embeddable quote calculator
SimplyPrint
Not a built-in feature today; a direct storefront link is on our roadmap.
Printerhive
Their standout: an embeddable widget for your own website where a customer uploads an STL, gets an instant price estimate, and sends a ready-to-review inquiry straight to your dashboard. Lovely for turning a website visitor into a lead.
Shop-order import
SimplyPrint
Plenty of Etsy and Shopify sellers already run their store on SimplyPrint by bringing orders into the queue; a direct storefront link is in closed beta.
Printerhive
Live Shopify, WooCommerce and Upgates integrations pull store orders into a production workflow (with a manual review step), matched to products and SKUs.
If a customer-facing quote calculator or hands-on shop-order import is your single biggest need, and you'll stay small and mostly Bambu/Klipper, Printerhive is well worth a look. For running a farm of any brand at scale, with AI detection, a full slicer, filament & maintenance tools and native apps, SimplyPrint goes further.

Printerhive and SimplyPrint comparison

Nothing is black-and-white, and there are always pros and cons to consider when choosing a 3D printing cloud solution!
And we're not here to simply tell you, that SimplyPrint is the best - we want you to make an informed decision, and of course there are pros of using Printerhive as well!

Pros of using Printerhive

Printerhive has real strengths, and they're worth being honest about:

  • Embeddable quote calculator: their standout, a widget you embed on your own site so customers upload an STL, get an instant estimate, and send an inquiry to your dashboard. SimplyPrint doesn't have this yet.
  • Live shop-order import: Shopify, WooCommerce and Upgates orders flow into a production workflow (with a manual review step). SimplyPrint's direct storefront link is still in closed beta.
  • Bambu heritage: they were one of the first to fully control Bambu Lab printers remotely, with solid AMS auto-matching.

Cons of using Printerhive

Where Printerhive tends to fall short for a working farm:

  • Narrow printer support: Bambu and Klipper plus basic Prusa only; no OctoPrint, no Marlin-over-USB and no Duet, and every printer needs a Raspberry Pi client on the network.
  • No AI detection: no AI failure detection and no AI bed-check.
  • No interactive slicer: slicing is headless only (prep your plates in desktop OrcaSlicer first); there's no in-browser build-plate editor.
  • Hard ceiling: the top plan caps at 30 printers and 4 users for €100/mo, with no volume discount, no annual discount and "beta" pricing set to rise.
  • Missing farm tools: no native mobile apps, no NFC filament tags, no maintenance system, no enterprise SSO and no Education plan.
  • Very new and small: founded in 2024 by a two-person team, with near-zero independent reviews and no published DPA or uptime SLA yet.

Printerhive vs. SimplyPrint: frequently asked questions

Is SimplyPrint or Printerhive better for a print farm?

It depends on your priority. Printerhive is the better fit if you run a small, mostly-Bambu (or Klipper) farm that sells custom prints, and especially if a customer-facing quote calculator or Shopify/WooCommerce order import is your number-one need. SimplyPrint is the better fit for almost everything else a farm does at scale: running any printer brand (Bambu, Klipper, Prusa, Marlin, Duet, OctoPrint), AI failure detection, a full interactive cloud slicer, built-in filament and maintenance tools, native mobile apps, and pricing that keeps scaling past 30 printers. It's also the more established platform, having run print farms since 2020.

Does Printerhive support non-Bambu printers?

Partly. Bambu Lab has the deepest support, and any Klipper/Moonraker printer (Voron, RatRig, custom builds) is fully supported. Prusa is "basic" only (via PrusaLink on the MK4/XL), with enhanced support still on Printerhive's roadmap. There is no OctoPrint, no Marlin-over-USB and no Duet support, and every printer connects through a Raspberry Pi client you run on your network. SimplyPrint supports OctoPrint, Klipper/Moonraker, Marlin, Prusa (fully), Bambu and Duet natively.

Is Printerhive cheaper than SimplyPrint?

Not for an actual farm. Printerhive's €8 Hobby tier looks cheap, but it's single-user, and the features a farm runs on, multi-printer printing, MagicPrint auto-assign, filament tracking and the API, all start at its €50 Professional plan. SimplyPrint includes the print queue, multi-printer printing and API from Pro at $9.99/mo, and the full farm suite (unlimited AutoPrint, filament, maintenance) on Print Farm at $39.99/mo. It also scales with volume discounts, Fair Billing and unlimited users well past Printerhive's 30-printer, 4-user ceiling, so SimplyPrint is typically the better value for a working farm.

Does Printerhive have AI print-failure detection?

No. Printerhive has live camera streams, monitoring and notifications, but no AI / computer-vision failure detection and no first-layer or bed-clear check. SimplyPrint includes AI failure detection (with optional auto-pause/cancel) and an AI bed-check that confirms the plate is clear before the next print starts.

Does Printerhive have a cloud slicer like SimplyPrint?

Not an interactive one. Printerhive added headless STL/3MF slicing, but there's no in-browser build-plate editor, you prepare and arrange plates in desktop OrcaSlicer and send them in. SimplyPrint offers both automatic headless slicing and a full interactive in-browser slicer, across 5 engines (PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer, BambuStudio, ElegooSlicer and CrealityPrint).

Can Printerhive connect to my Shopify or WooCommerce store?

Yes. Despite its marketing site mostly highlighting the Upgates integration (Upgates is a Czech e-commerce platform), Printerhive has genuine, live Shopify and WooCommerce integrations that import store orders into a production workflow, you then review each order and assign it to a printer (it isn't fully hands-off). SimplyPrint lets you run an Etsy or Shopify store today by bringing orders into the queue, and a direct storefront link is in closed beta. If hands-on shop-order import or a customer quote calculator is your single most important requirement, Printerhive is worth a serious look.

Can Printerhive be used for schools?

Not really. Printerhive has no dedicated education plan, no classes and teachers, print quotas, approval flow or district SSO, just its standard Free-to-Business ladder. SimplyPrint is farm-first too, and also offers a full Education plan (classes, an Academy, quotas, approval and district SSO) if a school wants it, so a lab can run SimplyPrint purely as a farm and step up to a real classroom setup only if it needs one.

Conclusion
Why SimplyPrint is the Top Printerhive Alternative

We made SimplyPrint due to the fact, that nothing else on the market quite fit our needs. We wanted a platform that was easy to use, but still had all the features we needed. We wanted a feature-rich platform, intuitive and easy to use, with a great user experience and actual innovation within the 3D print management software space.

In summary, we - humble and unbiased as we are 😉 - believe that the SimplyPrint platform is a great Printerhive alternative!
