Connect the Stratasys F900 to SimplyPrint

Does the Stratasys F900 3D printer work with SimplyPrint, OctoPrint, Mainsail and Fluidd? Each way of connecting it, what it needs, and how to set it up.

  • The maker's cloud

    Possible, not built yet

Prints through Stratasys's GrabCAD Print, and GrabCAD's SDK gives software vendors APIs to connect Stratasys FDM printers to their systems. SimplyPrint could build support on it, but it isn't built yet. Source

  • SimplyPrint

    SimplyPrint Client

    Not compatible

Runs Stratasys's closed controller and takes jobs only through Stratasys's own software, such as GrabCAD Print. Source

  • Mainsail Fluidd

    Klipper (Moonraker)

    Not compatible

Runs Stratasys's closed controller and prints from Stratasys's own software; no Klipper or Moonraker is documented. Source

  • OctoPrint

    OctoPrint

    Directly, over USB

    Not compatible

Runs Stratasys's closed controller and takes jobs only through Stratasys's own software, such as GrabCAD Print; no OctoPrint or serial control is documented. Source

What filament can the Stratasys F900 print?

Filament compatibility for the Stratasys F900: the materials Stratasys lists for it.

Filament Suitability Notes
PLA Great The easiest filament to print. Works on almost any printer; a heated bed helps adhesion but is not required.
PETG With care Marginal - PETG prefers a hotter bed (~70-80C) than this printer reaches.
TPU & flexibles With care Possible, but a Bowden extruder makes flexibles harder - print slowly and prefer firmer (higher-shore) TPU.
ABS & ASA Great On the maker's list of materials for this printer.
Nylon (PA) Great On the maker's list of materials for this printer.
Polycarbonate (PC) Great On the maker's list of materials for this printer.
Carbon-fiber & glass-filled Great On the maker's list of materials for this printer.
High-temperature (PEI, PEEK, PEKK) Great On the maker's list of materials for this printer.

Tip: this is a general guide from the printer's specs - always check your filament's recommended settings. With SimplyPrint you can save a profile for each spool and track exactly what filament you have in stock.

When to choose the Stratasys F900

Choose it for the biggest parts in high-performance materials, or where certified production matters. The F3300 prints faster in a smaller chamber; the Fortus 450mc covers most of the same materials in a 406 x 355 x 406 mm envelope.

Pros

  • 914 x 610 x 914 mm: Stratasys's largest FDM build chamber.
  • Prints ULTEM 1010 and 9085, PPSF, Antero PEKK, nylons, PC, ASA and ABS.
  • +/- 0.089 mm accuracy, with an optional FDC cabinet for longer unattended runs.
  • Secure connectivity options, including STIG compliance for US government use.

Cons

  • Not supported by SimplyPrint yet: support could be built on GrabCAD's SDK.
  • Runs Stratasys's closed controller with its own software, so there is no OctoPrint or Klipper route.
  • Materials beyond Stratasys's own need the separately licensed OpenAM software.
  • Weighs 2,869 kg and needs three-phase power.

Who it suits

  • Schools Not a good fit

    A 2.9-tonne production machine.

  • Hobbyists Not a good fit

    Built for industrial production.

  • Businesses Great fit

Large, certified production parts in high-performance thermoplastics.

  • Print farms Can work

GrabCAD Print queues jobs across Stratasys printers, but SimplyPrint cannot manage it today.
