What reviewers say about the LightMake L4
Reviews from people who test printers for a living. We link to them; the opinions are theirs.
First hands-on prints on the four-toolhead, linear-motor L4 (Kickstarter-stage machine): four models printed to check print quality, multicolour output, toolhead switching, alignment and purge waste. Affiliate and discount links in the description.
When to choose the LightMake L4
Choose the L4 only if you are comfortable backing a Kickstarter-stage machine: LightMake reports passing 3 million USD, a trial production run in October 2026 and a 24-month warranty, and the one hands-on video we found (The Edge of Tech) is an early look, not a full test. It gives you four dedicated nozzles with a 1-second tool change and a 354 x 370 mm plate. If you want a proven multi-colour printer today, a Bambu Lab H2D or a Bambu Lab P2S with AMS ships and has independent reviews.
Pros
- Four independent toolheads, one per colour or material, with a claimed 1-second tool change (LightMake).
- Large usable print area of 354 x 370 mm and a 320 °C hotend (our facts).
- Dual HD cameras with AI failure detection that stops failed prints (LightMake).
- Built for fleets: cluster management and deadline-based queueing are part of its own software (LightMake).
- Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB connectivity.
- 24-month warranty on the crowdfunding units (LightMake).
Cons
- Crowdfunding-stage product with no independent long-term test; the only hands-on we found is an early video that carries affiliate links.
- No price listed on the maker page and no shipping details.
- The page describes only a 'massive chamber'; our facts list no enclosure, so ABS and nylon results are unproven.
- SimplyPrint compatibility is unknown for Klipper and unlikely for OctoPrint, so connecting is not assured.
Who it suits
-
Schools Not a good fit
A crowdfunding-stage machine with unclear enclosure and no confirmed SimplyPrint connection is a risky pick for classrooms.
-
Hobbyists Can work
Four-colour printing with no filament switching is exciting, but you take on the risk of an unproven early machine.
-
Businesses Can work
A fast, multi-material print area is attractive, but no price, no independent test and no support track record yet.
-
Print farms Not a good fit
LightMake pitches its own cluster software, but with no proven reliability and no confirmed SimplyPrint connection it cannot be recommended for unattended fleets.
