Bambu Lab Integration

Connect your Bambu Lab printer(s) to SimplyPrint

The Bambu Lab integration is currently in beta but has been tested by thousands of users for 2+ years, including large farms and universities using it in production.

SimplyPrint & Bambu Lab

We're in contact with the Bambu Lab team, and together we ensure SimplyPrint will always be able to connect to your printers, even as firmware evolves. Our partnership means you can rely on this integration for the long term.

How the integration works

The SimplyPrint bridge

Since Bambu Lab printers don't allow installing third-party software directly, we use a clever solution:

  • Our SimplyPrint Bambu Lab Client runs on a separate device on your network
  • This device acts as a "bridge" connecting your printer(s) to SimplyPrint
  • It's a wireless setup - no extra cables needed!
Important: The device running the client must remain turned on at all times to maintain the connection to your printers.

Connection modes: Cloud vs. LAN-only

Bambu Lab's third-party connection policy update

Bambu Lab has updated their firmware with new connectivity policies. For printers with the latest firmware, you'll need to use LAN-only mode with "Developer mode" enabled. If your printer has older firmware, you may still be able to use Cloud mode.

LAN-only mode
Recommended
  • Works with all new printers & firmware
  • Most secure & private connection
  • No connection to Bambu Cloud or Chinese servers
  • Printer can be completely isolated from the internet
  • Cannot use the Bambu Handy app
  • Cannot send prints from BambuStudio remotely
Don't worry about app & slicer limitations! The SimplyPrint mobile app offers all the features of Bambu Handy and more.
You can also use BambuStudio via SimplyPrint for seamless printing, on any device, anywhere.
Cloud mode
Legacy support
  • Can use Bambu Handy app alongside SimplyPrint
  • Can send prints directly from BambuStudio
  • Only works on older printer firmware
  • Not supported on future firmware versions
  • Requires connection to Bambu Cloud
Firmware downgrade required: Unless you're already on an older firmware version, you'll need to downgrade your printer firmware to use Cloud mode. This may remove newer features and improvements from Bambu Lab. How to downgrade firmware

Ready to proceed?

Now that you understand how the integration works, let's set up your Bambu Lab printer with SimplyPrint.

In the next step, you'll choose and set up the device that will run the SimplyPrint Bambu Lab Client.

What you'll need
  • A device that will remain powered on

Any computer or device such as a Raspberry Pi that can run the SimplyPrint client

  • Network connection

The device must be on the same network as your printer(s) for LAN-mode

  • Your Bambu Lab printer(s)

Make sure it's powered on and connected to your network

FAQ

If you use the latest Bambu Lab firmware (for all their models) while remaining in cloud mode, we will be able to communicate with your printer, but we won't be able to perform "write"-actions; that means no starting prints or moving the print head or bed.

That is up to you, of course, but the SimplyPrint platform comes with a ton of cool features that Bambu printers don't natively have. Luckily switching to and from Cloud mode is not permanent; you can switch rigth back if you want!

When your Bambu Lab printer is in LAN-only mode, it won't connect to the Bambu Lab Cloud, meaning there will be no traffic going from your printers & networks to Chinese servers. This is often great for companies and schools due to security and IT regulations.

As SimplyPrint is a European company, based in Denmark and we offer Data Processing Agreements, it's typically much easier to get our software approved compared to the Bambu Lab Cloud.

That's it! You're all set

You're now ready to connect your printer and start using SimplyPrint.
