Most NFC tools only speak one brand's language. SimplyPrint reads and writes Bambu Lab, Creality CFS, Prusa OpenPrintTag, OpenSpool and OpenTag from a single inventory - so a mixed fleet of printers and filament all live in one place. And because usage is tracked automatically from G-code anyway, NFC is a convenience, never a requirement.

What NFC filament tracking is

An NFC tag is a small chip stuck to a spool that stores its identity - brand, material, color and remaining weight. Tap it with a phone, browser or USB reader and SimplyPrint pulls up (or creates) the matching spool instantly. Write to the tag and the data travels with the spool, so any printer or platform that reads it knows what's loaded. It's the fastest way to identify a spool and keep its record in sync.

Three ways to read and write a tag

Use whatever you already have. Each method reads and writes to the same SimplyPrint inventory.

The mobile app

The SimplyPrint app on iOS and Android. Android handles every standard; iOS covers the open standards (OpenPrintTag, OpenSpool, OpenTag and our URL tags).

Web NFC in the browser

Tap a tag straight from SimplyPrint in your browser - no app to install. Web NFC works in Chrome on Android only.

The desktop NFC Agent

A small Mac, Windows or Linux app with a PC/SC USB reader. Full read and write for every tag type, and the only method that handles ICODE SLIX (needed for OpenPrintTag). A reader like the ACS ACR1552U works great.

How to create an NFC tag for a spool

For the writable standards, encoding a spool's data onto a tag takes three steps in SimplyPrint.

Pick the right blank tag

Choose the tag your printer's ecosystem expects, an NTAG sticker for the open standards, or MIFARE Classic 1K for the Creality CFS, then add the spool to your inventory.

Write it with SimplyPrint

Write the tag from the mobile app, Web NFC in your browser, or the desktop NFC Agent. SimplyPrint encodes the spool's brand, material, colour and the format your printer reads.

Tap, load and track

Tap the tagged spool to identify it instantly, and usage deducts automatically as you print. Bambu Lab tags are read and auto-synced only, never written.

No vendor lock-in

Other ecosystems only recognize their own tags. SimplyPrint treats every standard as a first-class citizen, so a Bambu spool, a Prusament with OpenPrintTag and a DIY OpenSpool tag all sit in the same inventory and tracked the same way. Assigning an NFC ID that already belongs to another spool de-conflicts automatically, so you never end up with two spools claiming the same tag.

You don't even need NFC

NFC makes a spool faster to identify, but it's never required. SimplyPrint deducts filament usage automatically from the G-code of every print you start, whether or not the spool carries a tag. Add NFC where it helps, skip it where it doesn't - your inventory stays accurate regardless.

SimplyPrint reads and writes Bambu Lab, Creality CFS, Prusa OpenPrintTag, OpenSpool and OpenTag, plus our own URL-based tags. Tag types include NTAG213/215/216, MIFARE Classic 1K, MIFARE Ultralight C and ICODE SLIX2.
No. Those are different physical standards, and each printer only understands its own. What SimplyPrint gives you is one place to read and write both, so your inventory is unified even when your printers aren't.
Not necessarily. An Android phone reads and writes most standards, and Web NFC works in Chrome on Android with no app at all. iPhones handle the open standards but not MIFARE-based ones (Bambu Lab, Creality CFS). For full support of every tag type - including ICODE SLIX for OpenPrintTag - use the desktop NFC Agent with a PC/SC USB reader like the ACS ACR1552U.
Those tags use MIFARE Classic, which Apple's NFC hardware can't access. It's an Apple limitation, not a SimplyPrint one. Use an Android phone or the desktop NFC Agent for MIFARE-based tags.
Blank NTAG stickers are cheap - typically a few cents each in packs. SimplyPrint doesn't sell tags; you buy whatever standard tag your printer's ecosystem expects and write to it.
