Setting up SimplyPrint on Snapmaker U1

Easy steps to connect your Snapmaker U1 3D printer to SimplyPrint.

  • 1 Getting Started
  • 2 Enable SimplyPrint

What we'll do

  1. Update your U1's firmware to version 1.0.0 or later
  2. Enable Advanced Mode on the printer's touchscreen
  3. Open your printer's local web interface in a browser

It takes about 5 minutes.

1. Update your firmware

You need firmware version 1.0.0 or later - that's the version where Snapmaker added built-in SimplyPrint support. Check your current version on the printer's touchscreen, and update from the settings menu if you're behind.

2. Enable Advanced Mode

On the printer's touchscreen, go to Settings > Maintenance > Advanced Mode and turn it on. This unlocks file management, which SimplyPrint needs. (Available on firmware 1.0.0+.)

3. Open your printer's local web interface

Besides the color touchscreen you see on the printer itself, your Snapmaker U1 also has a local web interface - a page you open in a regular web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) on your computer or phone. This is where SimplyPrint gets enabled, so we need to get there first.

  1. Make sure your U1 and your computer/phone are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On the printer's touchscreen, open the network settings and note down the IP address. It looks something like 192.168.1.42.
  3. Open a browser, type that IP address into the address bar, and press Enter.

The page that loads is your printer's local web interface. Keep this browser tab open - we'll use it in the next step.

What doesn't work yet

The U1 works great with SimplyPrint for basic printing, but a few things aren't supported yet due to how Snapmaker designed the printer:

  • Webcam streaming - the built-in camera doesn't stream automatically. See below for workarounds.
  • Filament syncing - we can't sync filament data between SimplyPrint and the printer.
  • Light control - the printer's LEDs can't be controlled through SimplyPrint.
  • Cloud slicing - the U1 uses Snapmaker's custom Orca-based slicer, which our cloud slicer doesn't support yet. For now, slice in Snapmaker Orca and upload the G-code to SimplyPrint.

Want webcam streaming?

Getting the U1's camera to stream is unfortunately a bit fiddly - it's just how Snapmaker built the printer. There are two ways to make it work:

  • Stock firmware + a keepalive script - keeps the camera feed active using a separate always-on device (Raspberry Pi, NAS, etc.). Your official firmware stays untouched.
  • Custom firmware (paxx12) - community-made firmware with built-in webcam streaming, hardware acceleration, and SSH. Custom firmware typically won't void your warranty, but any damage it causes isn't covered.

What's coming soon

We're working on making the U1 experience even better:

  • Direct Bridge integration - similar to our Bambu Lab bridge, connecting to your U1 through a separate device to unlock more features.
  • Filament syncing - once Snapmaker opens up their RFID system (they've promised to), we'll be able to sync filament data.
  • Cloud slicing - Snapmaker Orca engine support is coming to our cloud slicer.

That's it! You're all set

You're now ready to connect your printer and start using SimplyPrint.
