MakerGear is a US printer maker from Beachwood, Ohio, near Cleveland, started by Rick Pollack in 2009 making extruder parts for early RepRap-style printers. Its steel-framed M2 (2012) became a long-running workhorse for engineers, businesses and schools, followed by the M3 series (2017) and the enclosed Ultra One (2018). In October 2026 its store lists the Ultra One and spare parts as available; the M2 and M3 show as unavailable.

Grundlagt: 2009 · Hovedkvarter: Beachwood, Ohio, USA · Ejerskab: Founded by Rick Pollack · Hjemmeside: www.makergear.com

Open: published firmware and design files, onboard OctoPrint with no cloud, and spare parts for printers going back to 2012. The concern is a quiet company rather than lock-in.

Firmware og brugerdefineret firmware
●●●●●
MakerGear publishes its M2 and M3 firmware on GitHub (m3firmware is GPL-3.0) together with its OctoPrint setup; the firmware repositories were last updated in 2019, and upstream Klipper ships M2 configs. [9][10][13][15]
Lokal styring og integrationer
●●●●●
The M3 and Ultra One run an onboard OctoPrint-based print manager over Wi-Fi or the network, and OctoPrint's REST API is documented. MakerGear publishes its OctoPrint setup plugin on GitHub; there is no MakerGear cloud or account. [2][13][16]
Tredjepartsfilament, slicere og dele
●●●●●
Third-party filament and any slicer; MakerGear publishes Simplify3D profiles for its printers. Hot-end parts (V4 barrel, heater, nozzles) are MakerGear's own design but sold individually. [8][4]
Reparationer og reservedele
●●●●●
41 of 46 spare parts in MakerGear's store were in stock (hot-end parts, belts, fans, motors, LCDs, probes, power supplies), with upgrade and assembly guides, published M3 design files and printable Ultra One parts on GitHub. [4][5][11][12]
Fællesskab og dokumentation
●●●●●
Public user and upgrade guides and GitHub repositories, and a long-standing M2 user base; but MakerGear's news page was last updated in 2019 and its repositories mostly in 2023-2024. [6][7][8]
