The TAZ 8 is LulzBot's open-frame, US-made workhorse with a 295 x 295 x 285 mm plate, automatic levelling and swappable tool heads. It is for businesses, labs and schools that want a durable engineering printer that handles many materials.
Marlin with 'USB Serial' listed as a connectivity option on the maker's spec table; like the TAZ Workhorse. No OctoPrint report for this model found.
来源
Choose the TAZ 8 when you want a printer that runs engineering materials (nylon, PC, TPU, PVA) at up to 290 °C with tool-free tool-head swaps, and you want it to connect to SimplyPrint through OctoPrint. It is priced at 5,395 USD, far above a Bambu Lab P1S, which prints faster and fully enclosed; choose that instead if speed and price matter more than LulzBot's open-source hardware. We found no independent review of the TAZ 8 itself, only launch coverage.
优点
Prints a wide range of materials including PLA, PETG, ABS, nylon, PC, TPU and PVA at up to 290 °C (LulzBot).
Tool-free swapping between Meteor, Asteroid and Twin Nebula tool heads, including a 1.2 mm nozzle (LulzBot).
BLTouch 16-point automatic levelling with automatic X-axis tramming and Z offset (LulzBot).
Active bed cooling, linear rails on X and Y, runout detection and a glove-friendly touchscreen (LulzBot).
Works with SimplyPrint through OctoPrint.
Open-source hardware and software with source files published on GitLab and GitHub (LulzBot).
缺点
Open frame with no enclosure, so hot parts are exposed and ABS or nylon need a draught-free room.
High price: 5,395 USD on LulzBot's page.
Bedslinger motion limits how fast large prints can run compared with newer CoreXY printers.
No built-in camera, and files are loaded by USB serial or SD card (LulzBot), so remote monitoring depends on OctoPrint plus a camera you add.
No independent review found for the TAZ 8 itself.
适合谁
学校可用
Robust and well documented, and SimplyPrint can queue student prints for approval, but the open frame leaves hot parts in reach.
业余爱好者可用
Flexible with materials, but the price is high next to enclosed hobby printers.
企业适合
Engineering materials, swappable tool heads, US manufacturing and open documentation suit prototyping and short-run work.
打印农场可用
The OctoPrint route lets SimplyPrint manage it, but the price, speed and need for an added camera make it expensive to scale.
LulzBot is an American maker of open-source hardware 3D printers. The brand, which dates itself to 2011, was built up by Aleph Objects of Loveland, Colorado; after near-closure in 2019 it was bought by FAME 3D, which runs it from Fargo, North Dakota. LulzBot publishes its printer CAD, firmware and Cura LulzBot Edition slicer, and sells the TAZ and Mini printers to schools, labs and businesses that want a machine they can repair for years.

优点
Open-source hardware and firmware, with CAD files published.
Spare parts still sold for printers from 2016 and earlier.
Runs locally (Klipper and Mainsail on the Mini 3), with no cloud account.
Made in the USA, with its own open-source Cura LulzBot Edition slicer.
缺点
Expensive: the TAZ 8 listed at $5,395 and the Mini 3 at $1,695 in October 2026.
The company nearly closed in 2019, laying off about 80% of staff before FAME 3D bought it.
Current models are not in OrcaSlicer's built-in list; the main slicer is LulzBot's own Cura edition.
