Filament types, filament sensor & more

It's been a while since we last shared an update with you guys, but that doesn't mean that nothing has happened!

What's new?

  • Filament types
    Now, this one has been online for a few weeks, just not announced. Under the "Filament settings" you can now modify the standard filament types/materials or create your own!

    These filament types are used when adding new filament and when anything temperature-related is happening, like "Bed leveling", "Change filament", "Preheat"!
  • "Statistics" page rework!
    The statistics page has gotten a complete rework, so it's now super useful for following your 3D-printing habits, seeing how much filament you've used and get statistics per. printer!

  • Filament sensor support
    Got a filament sensor? It can now work with SimplyPrint! Many printers ship with a filament sensor, and in many cases you can simply plug it out of your printer, and into your Raspberry Pi. We have a guide for this coming very soon! We are also working on creating our own filament sensors, which we plan to properly announce shortly!

    This means that SimplyPrint will always know whether your printer actually has filament or not. Your print will pause if the filament runs out, and you will get a notification!
  • The "Preheat" button has gotten a little side-button that allows you to only heat the hotend or bed, and also heat the any of your filament types

  • BIG Raspberry Pi system & OctoPrint plugin update
    This one is a bit nerdy, but we've made a lot of changes to the software that we have running on your Raspberry Pi, as well as our OctoPrint plugin. A lot of this is bug fixes and general improvements, but in the end it results in a better user experience - especially for newer users in setup.

Coming soon;

  • Full slicer integration
    We have been hard at work the past couple of months to improve our slicer, and we feel we'll soon be ready to release a slicer that we would personally use! This means the slicer will be integrated properly all across the platform; when starting a print, if you upload an STL file, you can go directly to slicing and start the print instantly. You'll be able to print directly from "Your files" and from the slicer tab. We're really looking forward to this one!
  • OctoPrint updates directly in SimplyPrint!
    Very soon it will be possible to update OctoPrint itself as well as any plugins you have installed, directly via. the SimplyPrint panel - soon there will also be a setting to update everything automatically, so stay tuned for that!

If you made it to the end, we just want to thank you for all your continued support while we develop the platform! Keep the bug reports and feature requests coming!
