New Bed Check AI feature

Hey SimplyPrint'ers! Today we're excited to share some cool new changes and features, especially for you automation enthusiasts - let's dig in!

✨ Bed Check AI: is the bed actually clear?

A new and awesome AutoPrint feature - live now - is the Bed Check AI! This AI checks, via your camera, if the bed is fully clear and properly attached before starting the next print. This feature is just for AutoPrint (for now at least).

This - like many other features - was requested by a user via our suggestion box (suggestion #84) - keep them coming; we are listening!

Bed Check AI checks for;

  • Leftover items or filament on the bed (while being lenient enough to allow for a tiny inconsequential string here and there)
  • Wrong attachment - print bed misalignment (great for plate swappers!)
  • Missing print-bed: e.g. if a plate-swapper had the wrong count and no bed was attached

Now, we know that many - including us at SimplyPrint - are a bit tired of AI being forced into everything these days; that's why we carefully select when and where to apply it. Our first AI feature, launched earlier this year was the Failure Detection; an AI model specifically trained to catch 3D printing errors via the camera, detecting spaghetti, warping and blobbing (with more to come!) - and now, Bed Check AI to check if the bed is clear! As always, this feature is opt-in. You can learn more about security and data sharing aspects of the Bed Check AI in our privacy policy.

❗️ This feature is currently in open beta, available to everyone with access to the AutoPrint feature, but will most likely be a separately-purchasable add-on in the future.

✨ FarmLoop integration: next-level automation (+ discount!)

One of the most popular AutoPrint methods as of late is the FarmLoop mod, made by the brilliant guys behind the 3D Farmers YouTube channel. Today, we unveil the official FarmLoop + SimplyPrint integration.

Ever since we were lucky enough to be featured in their "Best Print Farm Software" video, we've been working with 3D Farmers to integrate FarmLoop into SimplyPrint, and using our ecosystem to make the FarmLoop automation method even more awesome.

See the easy setup in action here:

With the release of FarmLoop Stage 2 - currently only available for the Bambu Lab A1 series, while Farmloop Stage 1 (also supported in SimplyPrint) also supports the X and P series - many of the issues with the "use print-head to push off" method have been solved, as FarmLoop ensures;

  • Bed cooling - fast: using an external fan, the time-to-clear is seriously cut
  • Bed-bending - to mimic what we humans do when taking something off the bed that sticks a little too well, the plate is bent for you
  • AI-powered Bed Clear Detection, powered by SimplyPrint; ensuring you don't start a print on top of another print

Watch the FarmLoop (Stage 2) mod in action in the latest 3D Farmers video (not sponsored - just an awesome video!)

You can buy the FarmLoop Stage 2 Kit and have it delivered to your doorstep for a 5-minute installation, or, if you're up for the challenge, you can get the files, wiring diagrams and instructions on a DIY version.

❗️ The FarmLoop integration is currently in public beta, during which it is free to use. This integration will be a paid add-on after the beta period ends. More on duration and pricing soon.

✨ AutoPrint - Manual Mode: manual clear, automatic start

Another user-requested feature (suggestion #383) was a Manual AutoPrint mode, where AutoPrint would handle starting prints, but not clearing them automatically. For those whose farms/setups aren't quite fully automated, or those who print parts that aren't super automation-friendly; we've added this for you!

With the Manual AutoPrint mode you clear the bed, mark it as clear, and we handle starting the next print; no matter whether the next print is ready right away or later - when a queue item matches, the printer will start if it's ready. See it in action here, and enable it today!

✨ Brand-new AutoPrint UI

The AutoPrint UI has gotten a much-needed makeover; the main AutoPrint widget, per printer, has been updated, now showing the status of AutoPrint much more clearly, as well as the next print.

As for the AutoPrint setup and settings, we have too updated this, making space for the new Manual Mode and the growing list of supported AutoPrint methods. Go check it out!

✈️ We'll be at Formnext 2025 (Frankfurt, Germany): Nov 18-20th - see you there?

The SimplyPrint team will be at Formnext in Frankfurt once again this year, visiting on Nov 18th to the 20th. We love meeting our users face-to-face and having a chat, so if you're there and wanna say hi, hit us up in our Discord, or book a meeting here; https://cal.com/simplyprint/formnext-chat (for physical meetings at Formnext)

Coming soon: Filament Manager v2, Files rework, Maintenance, Shop system & more!

If you're a longtime user, you'll hopefully know by now that the SimplyPrint team is full of restless nerds that won't stop until you guys can't possibly come up with more feature requests; when we started the company in 2020, we set out to not be like the rest - we set out to innovate and develop, with a mission of never getting stuck and simply being happy with a basic offering. That probably means we'll be developing new features day and night til the day we die - but as of now, 5 - almost 6 - years in, that doesn't sound too bad! We love developing the platform for all of you, and we're lucky to have such an engaged, active, supporting - and rapidly growing - community. So, thanks to all of you using SimplyPrint!

With the "thanks" part out of the way, let me tell you a bit about what's to come!

Filament Manager v2

With no less than 34 open suggestions on the suggestion board being related to the filament manager, it's the single feature with the most ideas and wishes for extra features and improvements; it's nice to see that the community, and frankly, the world, is embracing the world of filament management more and more every day; the foundation of our filament manager dates back to 2017, and honestly hasn't changed much since. Since then, a lot has happened in the filament space - and now it's finally time to properly embrace this in SimplyPrint.

So, here's a little teaser of what's to come in the upcoming (almost finished) Filament Manager v2 update!

  • Brand-new UI: Grid, Compact, Table and Grouped modes
  • Filament locations & sub-locations
  • New & highly customizable QR + barcode label generator
    • With direct "Zebra" and "DYMO" label printer support
  • Better empty-handling
  • Web-NFC support (Chrome on Android only, for now!)
  • Webcam support: scan QR codes and barcodes via the website, on any device
  • Big mobile app update: NFC, QR code & barcode support
