# Setting Up Your The Industry Magnum

## About Your Printer

Your **The Industry Magnum** is a "smart" and cloud-connected printer, but it requires a special setup.

**The situation:** The Industry has designed this printer as a somewhat closed system. We can't install anything directly **on** the printer, but we can connect **to** it via a device on your local network.

**What this means:** You'll need a device on the same network as your printer to act as a "bridge" between the printer and SimplyPrint. This device runs our bridge software and handles the connection.

**What can be used as a bridge:**
- Mac, Windows, or Linux computer
- Raspberry Pi (any model with networking)
- Docker container
- Home server or NAS
- Any always-on computer (not a phone, tablet, or Arduino - must be an actual *computer*)

**Why is this needed?** Some manufacturers choose not to allow third-party software on their printers. This isn't a SimplyPrint limitation - we do our best to support as many printers as possible, even when manufacturers make it difficult. We're working around the manufacturer's restrictions to give you more control over your printer.

**The device must:**
- Be on the same network as your printer
- Stay powered on while you want to use SimplyPrint
- Run our bridge software
