## What slicer to use for the Voxelab Aries

None of the slicers in SimplyPrint's cloud can slice for the Voxelab Aries that we know of: it doesn't take standard G-code. Use the slicer its maker recommends.

## What filament can the Voxelab Aries print?

Filament compatibility for the Voxelab Aries: the materials Voxelab lists for it.

| Filament | Suitability | Notes |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| PLA | Great | On the maker's list of materials for this printer. |
| PETG | Great | Comfortably in range (PETG likes a ~230-250C hotend and a ~70-85C bed). |
| TPU & flexibles | With care | Possible, but a Bowden extruder makes flexibles harder - print slowly and prefer firmer (higher-shore) TPU. |
| ABS & ASA | Great | On the maker's list of materials for this printer. |
| Nylon (PA) | Good | Doable with care - dry the filament thoroughly, and an enclosure helps a lot. |
| Polycarbonate (PC) | Not ideal | Not recommended - PC needs very high hotend temps and an enclosed chamber. |
| Carbon-fiber & glass-filled | With care | Possible if you fit a hardened or wear-resistant nozzle - the abrasive fibers quickly wear a stock brass nozzle. |

## About Voxelab

Voxelab was a budget 3D printer brand that described itself as a subsidiary brand of Flashforge, the Chinese printer maker. Online since at least late 2020, it sold low-cost Ender-3-style FDM printers (the Aquila series), resin printers, filament and resin, mainly online and with warehouses in several countries. In October 2026 its own web store does not load, and we found no printer currently sold by the company.

- Headquarters: China
- Ownership: Subsidiary brand of Flashforge, per Voxelab's own About page
- Website: https://www.voxelab3dp.com

Openness: Mostly open (3.8 of 5)

Open hardware in practice: Ender-3-style printers with Marlin-based firmware, standard parts and no cloud. What is missing is the company: its store and download centre are offline, so support comes from the community.

- Firmware and custom firmware (3 of 5): Voxelab called the Aquila X2's firmware open source and published Marlin-based source for each Aquila model on its GitHub account (Voxelab-64), but as one-off uploads, the last in 2023. The community added its own Marlin builds, and upstream Klipper ships an Aquila config. <https://github.com/Voxelab-64> <https://web.archive.org/web/20231003210857/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/product/aquila-x2-fdm-3d-printer> <https://github.com/Klipper3d/klipper/blob/master/config/printer-voxelab-aquila-2021.cfg> <https://toms3d.org/2021/08/13/its-a-cheeseburger-the-flashforge-voxelab-aquila/>
- Local control and integrations (5 of 5): The Aquila printers have no cloud features: Voxelab lists SD-card offline printing as their connectivity, and they also run from OctoPrint, or from Klipper with Moonraker, on a computer you own; both document their APIs. <https://web.archive.org/web/20231003210857/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/product/aquila-x2-fdm-3d-printer> <https://github.com/Klipper3d/klipper/blob/master/config/printer-voxelab-aquila-2021.cfg> <https://docs.octoprint.org/en/main/api/index.html> <https://moonraker.readthedocs.io/en/latest/external_api/introduction/>
- Third-party filament, slicers and parts (4 of 5): Any 1.75 mm filament; Voxelab listed Cura and Simplify3D alongside its own VoxelMaker (a renamed Flashforge FlashPrint, per Toms3D). The original Aquila uses a standard Creality-style hotend, so third-party parts fit. <https://web.archive.org/web/20231003210857/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/product/aquila-x2-fdm-3d-printer> <https://toms3d.org/2021/08/13/its-a-cheeseburger-the-flashforge-voxelab-aquila/>
- Repairs and spare parts (3 of 5): Voxelab's store sold Aquila spare parts (mainboards, belts, nozzles, heating plates, feeders, motors). With the store offline, owners depend on Ender-3-compatible parts from other sellers. <https://web.archive.org/web/20231003210857/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/product/aquila-x2-fdm-3d-printer> <https://web.archive.org/web/20230126220516/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/download> <https://toms3d.org/2021/08/13/its-a-cheeseburger-the-flashforge-voxelab-aquila/>
- Community and documentation (2 of 5): Voxelab's download centre and store are offline and its GitHub firmware repositories have not changed since 2023; help now comes from the unofficial community around the Ender-3-style design. <https://web.archive.org/cdx/search/cdx?url=voxelab3dp.com&collapse=timestamp:6&fl=timestamp,statuscode> <https://github.com/Voxelab-64> <https://web.archive.org/web/20230126220516/https://www.voxelab3dp.com/download>

### Pros

- Cheap, simple printers built like the Creality Ender-3, so parts and upgrades are easy to find.
- No account, app or cloud: prints from an SD card or a computer you control.
- Marlin-based firmware source was published per model on GitHub.
- Works with any 1.75 mm filament and common slicers such as Cura.

### Cons

- Voxelab's own store and download centre are offline as of October 2026.
- We found no printer the brand currently sells.
- In 2021 Toms3D found the original Aquila's thermal protection failed: the firmware froze while the hotend kept heating.
- The firmware repositories are one-off uploads, last changed in 2023.

### Track record

- September 2025: From September 2025 the Internet Archive recorded server errors on voxelab3dp.com; on 18 October 2026 the site's security certificate had expired and the store did not load. We found no announcement from Voxelab or Flashforge about it. <https://web.archive.org/cdx/search/cdx?url=voxelab3dp.com&collapse=timestamp:6&fl=timestamp,statuscode> <https://www.voxelab3dp.com>
- August 2021: Thomas Sanladerer (Toms3D) showed the Aquila freezing while its hotend kept heating when the temperature sensor was shorted or unplugged, a failed thermal-runaway safeguard. His review indicates a later firmware update addressed it, while stressing that printers had shipped without working protection. <https://toms3d.org/2021/08/20/test-your-printers-for-thermal-runaway/> <https://toms3d.org/2021/08/13/its-a-cheeseburger-the-flashforge-voxelab-aquila/>
