## Automate the QIDI Q2 Combo

**Enclosed printers push their prints out.** The QIDI Q2 Combo's bed only moves up and down inside its enclosure, so instead of swapping plates, a push-off routine lets the toolhead push the cooled print off the plate and out through its front door, which has to be open while it runs. Some printers won't print with the door open (the Prusa CORE One has a door sensor), so check yours first.

### Ways to automate it

- [Push prints off with the toolhead](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/push-off): On a CoreXY printer, a G-code routine can push the cooled print off the front of the plate before the next job starts.
- [Your own ejection G-code](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/custom): Write the routine that clears your plate, and AutoPrint runs it after every print.
- [A robot arm, or anything with an API](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/api): Tell SimplyPrint the plate is clear through the API or a webhook, from a robot arm or your own system.
- [Clear it by hand, keep the queue](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/manual-mode): AutoPrint waits for you to mark the plate clear, then starts the next job.

[How AutoPrint works](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint). AutoPrint comes with the Pro plan and up.

## What filament can the QIDI Q2 Combo print?

Filament compatibility for the QIDI Q2 Combo: the materials it can handle, judged from its hotend, bed, chamber and enclosure.

| Filament | Suitability | Notes |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| PLA | Great | The easiest filament to print. Works on almost any printer; a heated bed helps adhesion but is not required. |
| PETG | Great | Comfortably in range (PETG likes a ~230-250C hotend and a ~70-85C bed). |
| TPU & flexibles | Great | The direct-drive extruder feeds flexible filament well. Print slowly for clean results. |
| ABS & ASA | Great | Enclosed, with a hot enough hotend and bed: ABS and ASA print well. |
| Nylon (PA) | Good | Doable with care - dry the filament thoroughly, and an enclosure helps a lot. |
| Polycarbonate (PC) | Good | In range for PC. Dry the filament, print slowly, and use an enclosure for the best results. |
| Carbon-fiber & glass-filled | With care | Possible if you fit a hardened or wear-resistant nozzle - the abrasive fibers quickly wear a stock brass nozzle. |

## What reviewers say about the QIDI Q2 Combo

- [Qidi Q2 3D printer review](https://www.techradar.com/pro/qidi-q2-3d-printer-review) (TechRadar, September 28, 2026, 4.5/5): Six months with the single-filament Q2: simple automatic calibration, excellent print reliability and wide material support, suited to education and small businesses. Attaching the Qidi Box was another matter. Recommended.
  > "Once again, and as I found with previous Qidi machines, the Q2 offers a solid no-fuss approach to 3D printing." - Alastair Jennings, TechRadar
- [QIDI Q2 Combo review: Great high temp printer, but skip the box](https://www.tomshardware.com/3d-printing/qidi-q2-combo-review) (Tom's Hardware, November 7, 2025, 3/5): Tests the Q2 Combo: with a 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and 65°C heated chamber it handles high-temperature filaments well, and the QIDI Box dries filament. But the multi-material box jammed repeatedly from filament-path friction even with a printed riser; QIDI said theirs was an early unit.
  > "At the time of this review, the QIDI Box is a great filament dryer, but not much else." - Denise Bertacchi, Tom's Hardware
- [QiDi Q2 Combo Review: How Does their Multi-Filament Box Perform After an Unintentional 10-Month Test](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7qOmmJnQ6I) (Aurora Tech, May 26, 2026): Ten-month test of the Q2 Combo: the box works as a dryer and four-spool backup, but multicolor PLA is slow and wasteful, so he would not buy it for that. A good, cheap choice for engineering filaments. Sponsored by Qidi, sent the unit (disclosed).
- [A Real Upgrade After Months of Use (Qidi Q2)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHb-C77mruY) (ModBot, December 27, 2025): Months of use of the Q2 and Qidi Box: the first box needed work and the revised one is still noisy when loading, but it saves time managing spools and gives filament backup. At 499 dollars (649 with the box) he finds it very competitive and a go-to for demanding filaments.
- [Wannabe or Klipper-based powerhouse? "It's complicated 💀" with the Qidi Q2.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30gz9rgw94w) (Made with Layers, September 15, 2025): Finds stock print profiles produced visible artifacts until Qidi sent a slower tweaked file; calls the Q2 'the Linux of 3D printers' with an accessible Klipper base and good documentation. The Qidi Box is fine as a dryer but not for many color swaps; he would skip it.

## About QIDI

QIDI Tech is a Chinese 3D printer maker formed in 2014. It sells enclosed, Klipper-based CoreXY printers such as the compact Q2 and the larger Plus4 and Max4, and develops the open-source QIDI Studio slicer and the QIDI Link app.

- Founded: 2014
- Website: https://qidi3d.com

Openness: Mostly open (4.2 of 5)

QIDI is mostly open: its printers are standard Klipper machines you can run fully on the local network, with published source and plenty of spare parts. The phone app and the store-only privacy policy are the weak spots.

- Firmware and custom firmware (4 of 5): QIDI printers run QIDI's editions of Klipper and Moonraker with Fluidd. QIDI publishes them and per-model firmware packages on GitHub under GPL (for example the Q2 in January 2026 and the Max4 in August 2026) and answers issues there. <https://github.com/QIDITECH/QIDI_Q2> <https://github.com/QIDITECH/QIDI_MAX4> <https://github.com/QIDITECH/klipper>
- Local control and integrations (5 of 5): QIDI printers run Klipper and Moonraker with Fluidd on the printer, and QIDI Studio connects to them on the local network by IP without an account. QIDI publishes its Moonraker edition on GitHub, and other software can use Moonraker's documented API. Only the QIDI Link phone app needs an account and QIDI's cloud. <https://wiki.qidi3d.com/en/software/qidi-studio/fluidd> <https://wiki.qidi3d.com/en/app> <https://github.com/QIDITECH/moonraker> <https://moonraker.readthedocs.io/en/latest/external_api/introduction/>
- Third-party filament, slicers and parts (4 of 5): Third-party filament works; QIDI Studio is open source, and as Klipper and Moonraker printers they work with other Moonraker-compatible software. Hotends and nozzles are QIDI parts made per model. <https://github.com/QIDITECH/QIDIStudio> <https://github.com/QIDITECH/QIDI_Q2> <https://qidi3d.com/collections/accessories>
- Repairs and spare parts (4 of 5): QIDI's store lists many individual parts, including motherboards, eMMC modules, fans, extruders, hotends and Wi-Fi cards, and its wiki has replacement guides such as the Plus4 hotend. <https://qidi3d.com/collections/accessories> <https://wiki.qidi3d.com/en/PLUS4/Maintenance/Replacehotend>
- Data and privacy (3 of 5): Local use needs no account. QIDI Link requires one and says which server it uses (Aliyun in China, AWS elsewhere). The published privacy policy covers the online store, not the printers or the app. <https://wiki.qidi3d.com/en/app> <https://qidi3d.com/policies/privacy-policy>
- Community and documentation (4 of 5): Firmware is released and issues are taken on GitHub, and QIDI keeps a wiki per model with manuals, maintenance and troubleshooting guides. <https://github.com/QIDITECH/QIDI_Q2> <https://wiki.qidi3d.com/en/software/qidi-studio/fluidd>
