## Automate the Prusa CORE One+

**Enclosed printers push their prints out.** The Prusa CORE One+'s bed only moves up and down inside its enclosure, so instead of swapping plates, a push-off routine lets the toolhead push the cooled print off the plate and out through its front door, which has to be open while it runs. Some printers won't print with the door open (the Prusa CORE One has a door sensor), so check yours first.

### Ways to automate it

- [Push prints off with the toolhead](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/push-off): On a CoreXY printer, a G-code routine can push the cooled print off the front of the plate before the next job starts.
- [Your own ejection G-code](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/custom): Write the routine that clears your plate, and AutoPrint runs it after every print.
- [A robot arm, or anything with an API](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/api): Tell SimplyPrint the plate is clear through the API or a webhook, from a robot arm or your own system.
- [Clear it by hand, keep the queue](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/manual-mode): AutoPrint waits for you to mark the plate clear, then starts the next job.

[How AutoPrint works](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint). AutoPrint comes with the Pro plan and up.

## When to choose the Prusa CORE One+

Choose the CORE One+ for a dependable enclosed printer with a clear upgrade path: Prusa lists MMU3 (five filaments) and INDX (eight) as multi-material options, and the assembled printer comes with a free Prusa Academy beginners' course. The Gen 2 changes (finer belts, a nozzle wiper, no separate heat-soak wait) are Prusa's own claims, and we found no independent review of this version. For twice the volume with an active 60 °C chamber, the CORE One L+ costs more; if you don't need an enclosure, Prusa's MK4S is the open-frame alternative.

### Pros

- Fully enclosed with a chamber that holds up to 55 °C, for ABS, ASA and nylon as well as PLA and PETG (Prusa).
- Prusa says setup takes about ten minutes, and the assembled printer comes with a free beginners' course (Prusa).
- MMU3 gives five filaments, and the INDX toolchanger up to eight (Prusa).
- Sold assembled or as a kit, with Ethernet and Wi-Fi and a 1080p camera as an optional extra (Prusa).
- Works with SimplyPrint through OctoPrint, and is expected to work through the SimplyPrint Client or Prusa Direct.

### Cons

- The chamber is passively heated, and the hotend tops out at 290 °C (Prusa).
- The camera is an optional extra and needs Wi-Fi to work (Prusa).
- A small 250 x 220 x 270 mm volume next to the CORE One L+.
- We found no independent review of the Gen 2 version.

### Who it suits

- Schools: Good fit. Enclosed, easy to set up and with a free beginners' course, and SimplyPrint can queue student prints for approval.
- Hobbyists: Great fit. A well-regarded enclosed platform with kit or assembled options and MMU3 or INDX upgrades.
- Businesses: Good fit. Dependable for functional prototypes in ASA, PC and nylon, with offline operation; no independent review of Gen 2 yet.
- Print farms: Good fit. Prusa says it runs its own farm of CORE One printers, but no plate-clearing kit is in our sources and the camera is optional.

## About Prusa

Prusa Research is a Prague company founded in 2012 by Josef Průša, who came from the open-source RepRap project. It designs and builds the Original Prusa and Prusa CORE printers, makes Prusament filament, develops the PrusaSlicer slicer and runs the Printables model site. Printers are built in Prague and at its US site in Delaware, sold assembled or as kits, and used by hobbyists, schools, businesses and print farms.

- Founded: 2012
- Headquarters: Prague, Czech Republic
- Ownership: Prusa Research a.s., founded and led by Josef Průša
- People: More than 1,200 people (company site, 2026)
- Website: https://www.prusa3d.com

Openness: Open (4.9 of 5)

Prusa is the most open of the large brands: GPL firmware, an open slicer, full local control without an account and spare parts for everything. Hardware design files now come under Prusa's own Open Community License, which allows personal and in-house business use but not selling machines.

- Firmware and custom firmware (5 of 5): Firmware for current printers is published on GitHub under GPL-3.0 and updated with every release. Official firmware is signed, but Prusa documents how to flash custom firmware by breaking a seal on the board and says this does not void the warranty. Prusa says firmware and printable parts are shared right away and electronics schematics later. <https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy> <https://help.prusa3d.com/article/flashing-custom-firmware-mini-mini_14> <https://www.prusa3d.com/page/open-source-at-prusa-research_236812/>
- Local control and integrations (5 of 5): PrusaLink, built into the CORE One, MK4S, MK3.9, MK3.5 and XL, handles monitoring, file uploads and print control on the local network without internet or an account, and printing from USB works offline. Prusa publishes PrusaLink's HTTP API as an OpenAPI specification on GitHub, and its help centre covers OctoPrint setup. Prusa Connect is an optional cloud service for remote access. <https://help.prusa3d.com/article/prusa-connect-and-prusalink-explained_302608> <https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Link-Web/blob/master/spec/openapi.yaml>
- Third-party filament, slicers and parts (5 of 5): Printers are open to any filament; PrusaSlicer is GPL-licensed and other slicers work. Instead of a locked RFID system, Prusa created OpenPrintTag, an NFC spool-tag standard that is free for any brand to use and works offline. <https://blog.prusa3d.com/core-one-cad-files-release-under-the-new-open-community-license-ocl_127290/> <https://blog.prusa3d.com/the-openprinttag-is-here-a-brand-new-nfc-tag-standard-for-smart-filament-is-now-shipped-with-a-new-redesigned-prusament-spool_123878/>
- Repairs and spare parts (5 of 5): The e-shop sells spare parts for each printer, printable parts are published, and the full CORE One CAD files are released. Prusa's open-source page says its goal is printers that stay moddable and easy to repair for decades, and its licence explicitly allows making spare parts for your own machines. <https://www.prusa3d.com/category/spare-parts/> <https://www.prusa3d.com/page/open-source-at-prusa-research_236812/> <https://blog.prusa3d.com/core-one-cad-files-release-under-the-new-open-community-license-ocl_127290/>
- Data and privacy (4 of 5): No account is needed for local use through PrusaLink or USB. Prusa Connect needs a Prusa account and stores G-codes and telemetry in the cloud. Prusa Research is an EU company and publishes its privacy policy and a Trust Center. <https://help.prusa3d.com/article/prusa-connect-and-prusalink-explained_302608> <https://www.prusa3d.com/page/privacy-policy_231258/>
- Community and documentation (5 of 5): Large community around Printables and the forum, a detailed knowledge base, and firmware and slicer developed in public on GitHub with open issue trackers. <https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy> <https://help.prusa3d.com/article/prusa-connect-and-prusalink-explained_302608>

### Pros

- GPL firmware with a documented, warranty-safe way to flash custom firmware.
- Full control on the local network through PrusaLink, with no account needed.
- Spare parts for every printer, published printable parts and released CAD files.
- Kits available for people who want to build and understand their printer.
- Made in Prague, with a second factory in Delaware for US buyers.
- OpenPrintTag is an open spool-tag standard any brand can use.

### Cons

- Hardware files use Prusa's own OCL licence, which bars selling machines built from them; it is not an OSI open-source licence.
- Electronics schematics are published later than firmware and printable parts.
- Remote access and cloud storage need Prusa Connect and an account.

### Track record

- July 2026: Printed Solid, the Delaware company Prusa Research bought in 2022, was renamed Prusa USA. Its Wilmington site builds the MK4S and CORE One+, makes filament and is Prusa's US service centre. <https://www.tomshardware.com/3d-printing/delawares-printed-solid-rebrands-to-prusa-usa>
- December 2025: Prusa released the full CAD files of the CORE One under its new Open Community License (OCL). OCL allows modifying, sharing mods and in-house commercial use, and grants patent and repair rights, but bars selling machines built from the files without an agreement, so it is not a standard open-source licence. Prusa said it is also filing patents on its designs. <https://blog.prusa3d.com/core-one-cad-files-release-under-the-new-open-community-license-ocl_127290/>
- October 2025: Prusa launched OpenPrintTag, a published NFC standard for smart filament spools that any brand can use without licence fees, starting with redesigned Prusament spools. <https://blog.prusa3d.com/the-openprinttag-is-here-a-brand-new-nfc-tag-standard-for-smart-filament-is-now-shipped-with-a-new-redesigned-prusament-spool_123878/>
- November 2024: Prusa announced the CORE One, its first fully enclosed CoreXY printer with active chamber temperature control. <https://blog.prusa3d.com/introducing-prusa-core-one-fully-enclosed-corexy-3d-printer-with-active-temperature-control_105477/>
- March 2023: Josef Průša wrote that open source in 3D printing was under strain from cloners and licence violations. With the MK4, Prusa released firmware sources and models of the plastic parts but held back the electronics plans, planning to publish them later under a new licence. <https://blog.prusa3d.com/the-state-of-open-source-in-3d-printing-in-2023_76659/>
