## What slicer to use for the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 2

None of the slicers in SimplyPrint's cloud has a ready-made profile for the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 2, but it takes standard G-code: start from a similar printer's profile and set the bed size, height and nozzle to match.

## Automate the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 2

**Bed slingers are the easiest to automate.** The LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 2 moves its bed back and forth, so its plate comes out to the front of the printer. That's what plate swappers like these use: they take the finished plate off and slide a fresh one on. Without a kit, a G-code routine can push cooled prints off with the toolhead. For example: [JobOx](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/jobox), [swapmod](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/swapmod).

### Ways to automate it

- [Push prints off with the toolhead](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/push-off): On a bed slinger, a G-code routine can sweep the cooled print off the bed before the next job starts.
- [Your own ejection G-code](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/custom): Write the routine that clears your plate, and AutoPrint runs it after every print.
- [A robot arm, or anything with an API](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/api): Tell SimplyPrint the plate is clear through the API or a webhook, from a robot arm or your own system.
- [Clear it by hand, keep the queue](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint/manual-mode): AutoPrint waits for you to mark the plate clear, then starts the next job.

[How AutoPrint works](https://simplyprint.io/features/autoprint). AutoPrint comes with the Pro plan and up.

## When to choose the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse 2

Choose the Workhorse 2 if you want LulzBot's open, repairable design with BLTouch levelling and a filament runout sensor, and connect it to SimplyPrint through OctoPrint. It costs 2,995 USD against 5,395 USD for the TAZ 8, but takes one tool head and has no active bed cooling listed. Independent reviewers (Windows Central) criticised the earlier Workhorse for its first-layer performance, and we found no review of this new model. If you want an enclosed printer for classrooms, a Bambu Lab P1S is quieter and faster.

### Pros

- Prints PLA, PETG, ABS, nylon, PC, TPU and PVA at up to 290 °C (LulzBot).
- BLTouch automatic levelling with X-axis tramming, Z offset and backlash compensation (LulzBot).
- Built-in filament runout sensor and a blue spring-steel magnetic PEI plate (LulzBot).
- Priced at 2,995 USD, well below the TAZ 8 (LulzBot).
- Works with SimplyPrint through OctoPrint.

### Cons

- Open frame with no enclosure, so hot parts are exposed and ABS or nylon need a draught-free room.
- Bedslinger motion and a 110 °C bed make it slower and less capable than newer high-speed printers.
- A single Meteor 175 tool head (LulzBot lists the swappable options only for the TAZ 8).
- No built-in camera, and files go in by USB serial or SD card, so remote monitoring needs OctoPrint and a camera you add.
- No independent review of this model was found.

### Who it suits

- Schools: Can work. Sturdy and repairable, and SimplyPrint can queue student prints for approval, but the open frame leaves hot parts in reach.
- Hobbyists: Can work. It handles many materials, but the price is high next to enclosed hobby printers that print faster.
- Businesses: Good fit. Engineering materials, US manufacturing and open documentation suit prototyping and short-run work at a lower price than the TAZ 8.
- Print farms: Can work. SimplyPrint can manage it through OctoPrint, but speed, price and the need for an added camera limit it for large fleets.

## About LulzBot

LulzBot is an American maker of open-source hardware 3D printers. The brand, which dates itself to 2011, was built up by Aleph Objects of Loveland, Colorado; after near-closure in 2019 it was bought by FAME 3D, which runs it from Fargo, North Dakota. LulzBot publishes its printer CAD, firmware and Cura LulzBot Edition slicer, and sells the TAZ and Mini printers to schools, labs and businesses that want a machine they can repair for years.
